Registration Frustration

So, looking back at my blog post yesterday, I made a joke at the end about hopefully not having another Islamic Law fiasco with my class today. I jinxed myself. This morning I attempted to attend my Introduction to Arabic Dialects class, but due to some misinformation about the time of the course,  I ended up wandering all around the SOAS main campus trying to figure out what I had done wrong, and still have not found an answer. Even worse though, was that when I emailed the Professor to ask some questions, he said that if I have no background in colloquial Arabic (which I don't), I will probably find his class extremely difficult.

This put me in quite the pickle today. I won't bore you with all the details, but it looks like Arabic just won't work out for me this semester. Which, to be honest, is okay with me. I realized (with the help of my wonderful parents) that I'm not here, studying for a semester in London, to take a specific course. I'm here to have experiences living in another part of the world. I wil return to Arabic in the fall at BC, but for now, I'll just have to practice and keep reviewing what I've learned on my own. Hopefully my two classes tomorrow (which have again changed since yesterday - shocker!), State and Politics in Africa and Politics of Development, will be more successful. On second thought, maybe I should just keep my mouth shut.

Later today I returned to Sainsbury's with Eric to buy a pot, pan, silverware, bowl, and plate; the necessities for my kitchen. I also got a little travel kettle so that I can make oatmeal, tea, and instant coffee. Or as I learned today, they have instant lattes! I'm so excited.

I spent the rest of the day researching classes and making sure my schedule would work out. I also attempted to make my room a little more homey, though I'm not sure how successful I was:

Work in Progress?
Tomorrow I have three hours of lecture, and tomorrow evening is "Welcome Drinks" for the new exchange students, so that we can meet the full-year exchange students and have a chance to meet with the study abroad advisors. I'm excited!
